Reunion

(Pandemic Diary - day 148)

From my journal: 24 July 2020 (Friday)

The family reunion is tomorrow in Berlin, and we’re attending. But we’re wary of it as well, and I know it’s going to be a tricky situation that will require tact to get through without offending people.

We’ve already decided to do our part for making it as pandemic-safe as we can, and in my reply-all response to the invitation I said we’d be there “for the outdoor parts of the day (we'll have to skip the inside parts, but the open air is so much better anyway)”.

But I’m skeptical that all involved will be as civic-minded.

The approach I’m trying to get myself to take is that I’ll control the things I can control (mainly my own actions), and not try to control the actions or ideas of others. And also not to scold them or insult them or whatever, and not to get into political discussions, and not to argue (at least not much). And politely but firmly follow the rules of common sense for dealing with an invisible and potentially deadly virus in our midst.

Yes, this is much easier said than done, but we’ll do our best with it.
